Lon Luna (Netherlands, 1989) is an interdisciplinary artist working across performance, visuals, community art, food rituals and underground culture. She pushes the boundaries of what art can be and feeds movements rooted in action and compassion. Based between Europe and Southeast Asia, her practice dives into the tensions between hyper-capitalism, collectivity, and the everyday life; exploring what we consume and what consumes us. She weaves connections between kitchen tables, social centers and institutions.
Her work explores the personal, and how it connects to the collective. She investigates what it means to be Dutch in a world that continuously changes. Structuring her practice differently, she creates space for the unknown, the other, and the necessary. She seeks her truth in places where care and erosion of consumers identity meet, where encounters are not programmed, and where art means more than representation of the work itself.
Her work has been shown internationally, including at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (TH) and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (NL) and, at the age of 36, has held four international solo exhibitions. Likely the only Dutch artist to complete an MFA at Chiang Mai University (TH), she carves out an independent path that challenges conventional ideas of success, nationality, and professionalism. She is currently undertaking a year-long residency at Roodkapje (NL), collaborating with her collective to create happenings.

Door aan elk nummer een handeling toe te wijzen, verduidelijkt de betekenis en het gevoel van een getal. Het recept 'Broeder' (ook wel 'Jan in de Zak' genoemd), is een broodschotel, die in kokend water wordt gekookt in een binddoek. Dit gerecht is door de schepen van de VOC naar diverse landen gebracht en meer dan 250 jaar later zijn afgeleide versies van Broeder te vinden in Indonesië, Sri Lanka en India. Het werk bestaat uit een installatie met 3 verschillende diner-plekken waar de Broeder, afhankelijk van de zitplek, verschillend tijdens de performance geserveerd wordt.

Lonneke’s background lies in the subculture(s) that have been created by squatting. Out of this culture, several things seemed to formulate all round the same time; such as free spaces, eateries, “giveaway” shops and various music and art styles. Through the Pirate Bay archive, Lonneke discovered the VHS, de hondenkoekjesfabriek (“Dog Cookies Factory”). This was a noise band that was linked to a building where all sorts of stories exist. Many of the properties of this subculture no longer exist
