Walter Mingledorff is a collector of peculiar and outcast objects, often sourced from second-hand shops, thrift stores, and eBay. Through these cultural artifacts, he excavates memories, weaving together fragments of the past to reinterpret contemporary society and explore relationships between humans and non-humans. Working primarily in three-dimensional sculpture, Mingledorff uses found objects as his medium, collaging symbols of consumerist culture into reimagined mythologies and histories.
Born in Florida, Mingledorff grew up surrounded by the strange and eclectic, a sensibility that continues to inform his artistic practice. He earned a BA in Furniture Design and Apparel Design from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and later completed an MA in Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven.
