Koen Van Eeckhoutte

design - figuratief

Restored old broomsticks were sharpened to a point and connect the red body from top to bottom. Oak was used as corner reinforcement to not have it collapse under its own weight. The red points were made from the cut corner-parts of the main body, and the main body itsef was made to fit the glass plate. Can be exhibited with or without the glass plate.
Star Table 3600 - 2023, 780 x 580 x 515 MM, painted MDF, lacquered oak, nails, screws, wood glue, wood filler, wooden plugs, metal parts, safety glass Made from former MDF workbench of a goldsmith friend. The main four-pointed body was first made to be something else entirely, but was transformed into the Star Table 3600 by playing around with the scrap that came of the main body itself. “3600” is encompassed in the title to emphasize the differently shaped silhouette the piece embodies at every angle (360 degrees; all around).
Verplaatst Elke Dag Een Centimeter - 2023, 415 x 807 x 684 MM, painted MDF, lacquered multiplex, aluminum, steel parts The arms are made from pre-bent multiplex which was formerly part of a bed frame. Painted blue because the blue paint was almost dried out and had to be thrown out otherwise. Will move one centimeter each day if put in the proper corner in one’s living room.
Pijl - 2020, 585 x 860 x 787 mm, painted MDF, glass, silicone drops, wood filler, wooden sticks, painted oak, nails, wood glue, steel parts, marker The certainty of life’s uncertainty is a driving force for life. Balancing this fact and accepting its nature makes way for a spontaneous “coincidence”, where a random collection of found materials are left to be the main inspiration for this work. An unusual holed glass panel found near a dumpster lead to the idea of making an archery-induced vandalised table, spiking out arrows, with one of which, piercing through the corner hole in the glass. This vandalisation in marked in an original one page storyboard. Van Eeckhoutte likes the idea of an alternative reality where his tables play part. In our world, they resemble a carrying fragment of an other worldly story. In PIJL’s case, it is about the children that went out to the wizard’s forest, to play with their archery sets.
