Burning Desk

crossover - sculpture - drawing - zine - artistic research

Burning Desk is a full-time illustrator and independent publisher based in Rotterdam making works about life and humans. With a love for (visual) books and as an indie publisher under the name: Burning Desk Books, she is building an inclusive platform for artists from minority groups with a focus on makers of color who (want to) publish books. This to promote their works, give them a platform and share valuable information about the self-publishing community. Burning Desks illustration works are inspired on sensitive and social subjects like; human behavior/interaction, equality, climate change, mass production/consumption and animal cruelty. She is highly fascinated by how we as humans are affecting our surroundings and how this affects our earth, mental health and the way we treat each other. Via her works Burning Desk tries to deal with and reflect on the things she doesn't agree with or understand. Her main goals are to spread more awareness about the subjects above to start an open conversation, and to gain world peace of course LOL.

Burning Desk Books (independent publisher)

Other

  • 15-01-2024
  • After years of illustrating my focus has shifted to publishing books. With Burning Desk Books I focus on making visual books and to build a platform for fellow artists of color, help them out making books, promote their works and to exchange valuable information about the (black) self-publishing community. As in many levels of society the art(book) scene is very white and somewhat posh at times, via this way I hope to make some small changes. Art should be low-key and accessible for everyone!

Roffa.nu is a local platform that promotes cultural events in Rotterdam that are a little underground and have street style vibes.

Burn Desk

Other

  • 01-05-2018
  • Location: Berlin,
  • I moved to Berlin in 2018 to focus on my creativity to figure out what I wanted to do with it. During the 3 years living and working there Burning Desk was born. Tho I was making illustrations in the years leading up to it, I really start using this name in 2019 on social media. I see my time in Berlin as the real starting point of Burning Desk. Looking back at the process in the years before 2018, it was all a huge part of me going to be where I am today as an artist.

Figuring out what to do in life...

I worked with clients such as CBK Den Bosch, BART Den Bosch, Maijke Husstege, Kunstnacht Den Bosch and Holland America Line. In 2015 I realized that photography and graphic design was not making me happy anymore so I quit and started illustrating whithout sharing it with the outside world.
