Carla Klein

Paint

Carla Klein is an artist who uses photography as source material for her paintings.
She uses digital images and prints as well as analogue self-developed photographs.
The latest paintings are mainly created from computer prints and digital images. In the paintings, Klein not only transforms the image on the canvas, but also the materiality of the print itself: the thin photo paper, the characteristic sheen of the blue and black ink, traces of a printer without ink that create scratches and lines on the surface .
She prefers large-scale paintings in which the viewer can be sucked in, engulfed and forget about the surroundings. The works are often reminiscent of abandoned film sets and invite the viewer to imagine his own story with the painting. Her works form a kind of interaction between image, paint, depth and abstraction in which materiality and illusion constantly alternate.
