Carolina Koster

abstract - artistic research - environment - drawing

Carolina Koster's work reflects her fascination with the expressiveness of the physical world around us. Outside her studio, she seeks connection with where she is and filters what is meaningful to her. Finds and experiences are taken to her studio.
She works intuitively there. Her starting point is (partly found) austere materials, such as graphite, wood, stone, paper and plaster. She packages, applies layers of charcoal, photographs, folds and unfolds, pours, cuts and tears, until a found method fits. The poetic power of our physical world becomes palpable from the interaction with the pure material.
Her oeuvre is as tranquil as it is present. As subtle as monumental. It appeals to a fundamental connection to the physical world. It invites us to reflect on our own physical being, to connect with ourselves and to experience something of the sublime of the tangible world.
