In my work I play with the contrast between the painting as a physical thing and the painting as a pictorial space.
I want my paintings to have a strong material presence and thus become things in themselves, by using bright colors or grainy earth colors. In my paintings I therefore want to investigate paint as a material: the pigment and the medium. That is why I make my paint myself with earth pigments that I consciously do not rub too fine so that the material quality of the paint remains. I usually apply the paint with a putty knife so that it works as a material, the thick pigment layers create an interesting texture.
