Danni van Amstel's work is often a reaction to a certain context. This involves looking at the way in which the space and objects are used and then making an addition that is subtle in nature and emphasizes the casualness of the everyday. The work is reduced to its essence. Careful consideration is given to the properties of the material and the meaning of the work within the context.

Danni van Amstel (1986, Oss) graduated from the AKV. St. Joost her Bachelor Visual Arts (2011) and her Master Visual Arts (2015). Since 2016 she lives and works in Rotterdam.

    • Location: Art Laboratory Foundation Fabrikaat, Lent-Nijmegen
    • During my residency I took the former farmhouse of Art Laboratory as a starting point. In the work that I have created, I emphasize the elements removed from the farmhouse. With my work I reshape the still visible remains and I have made a subtle addition to traces that indicate an earlier use of this space.

    • An exhibition in the Hilton Art Lab of five conceptual artists, who focus on the factual and the visible. THIS IS is an invitation to take the image as it is. Danni van Amstel reformulates the unnoticed detail as a photographic facade.

    • DE PERSONSHAVEN is a street in the Feijenoord district of Rotterdam. A block of houses in the street is largely empty because it is going to be demolished. Danni van Amstel has asked the owner to look around the abandoned houses. From the traces of habitation left behind, works of art have arisen in which an increasingly reducing search has been made for an essential image, for poetry. Shards, pieces of wallpaper, a house number... What is value, and what is of value.

    • Participation in the exhibition Prospects and Concepts during the international art fair Art Rotterdam. On behalf of the Mondriaan Fund, 67 artists were shown who had received a work contribution to young talent.

    • In Moira, Danni explores the boundary between utensils and sculpture. They are spatial works that refer to domestic objects but deviate slightly from them. These works leave a trace, a memory in the space.

    • Location: Expoplu, Nijmegen
    • A group of artists have come up with a concept that fits in with the project 'Time, Subject and Space' by the Belgian artist Stijn van Dorpe, which was shown at Expo Plu. It is a dialogue arising from the text by Martijn in 't Veld. The text is more than a beginning, middle and end, it is rather organic and rhizomatic in line with Mille Plateaux by Deleuze and Guattari.

    • The building and the environment had to be the source of inspiration for the work in Casco Concrete, so Hoogendijk and Kornet first of all selected like-minded people: young artists for whom the space is emphatically an inseparable part of the work. As for example in the very sensitive work of Danni van Amstel (1986).
