Daphnis Monastirioti

artistic research - audiovisual - performance - experimental - sculpture

Daphnis *they/ them, (GR) is a new media artist, noise maker/ performer and researcher. Their ongoing broader research questions how intimacy, love and poetry can be reconceived in a hyperreality, with the main purpose, in search of empathy. Particularly, now, they direct it towards sound/noise, the neurodivergent mind and transness/queerness. They create immersive soundscapes from a combination of spoken words/prose poems, recordings of technological objects, distorted sounds of instruments, analog synths, and their body itself.

  • Can a machine produce poetry? Digital objects obtain the position of narrators, creating a new soundscape through rehearsal. The project itself is a hybrid environment consisting of technological objects, remnants of breath, and the distorted voice of a human presented as an artificial assistant. Paradoxes become the principal of this interaction, with the main interest in search of empathy. Here, I explore the emergence of recognition by extending our gaze beyond conditions of entities.
