Erika Roux

video - artistic research - documentary - writing - film

Erika Roux is a visual artist and filmmaker. Her work looks at situations and social spaces, which – by their own existence and action – challenge us in the way we perform, produce, and live together. Filmmaking and (script) writing become a process of encounter. Inherent to Erika's work is the continuous concern of ethics and language of representation. With such questions as “how to represent the specificities of the other within the questionable power structure of art making?” she develops experimental forms of observing, narrating and collaborating. Her work then often navigates between the critical potential of fiction and re-enactment and the complications present in documentary material, while her position is directly or indirectly exposed.

Besides her individual artistic practice, she currently co-runs WET, a video art collective based in Rotterdam and is project manager at A Tale of A Tub, Rotterdam.
