Esther Schoonhoven

„Was soll nicht Alles meine Sache sein? For all the good Sache, then the Sache Gottes, the Sache of Menschheit, of Wahrheit, of Freiheit, of Humanität, of Justice. Nur Meine Sache soll niemals Meine Sache sein. Pfui über den Egoisten, der nur an sich thinks!

In 1844 Johan Caspar Schmidt, under the pseudonym Max Stirner, turned the concept of morality on its head. In the work 'Der Einzige und sein Eigentum' he explains that people should not obey morals, but should only do what they want.

  • It is noticeable that the methods Esther used are very clearly related to printing and yet do not lead to a traditional print run of graphic magazines. The world of printing comes into play everywhere in Esther's work. Very clearly also in the thinner print of a collage of newspaper images covered by a trail of lithographs (the same lithograph printed several times over the thinner print). Combining and repeating creates a narrative image.
