Fileona Endoxa Dkhar (1993) is an artist-researcher working across film, photography, writing and performance. She is based in Shillong, Meghalaya and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Her work is informed by themes of nature, mythology and indigenous histories.

Echo/Caress - 'Echo/Caress' is a two-part video shot in the forested tracks of Khasi-Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya, the first part tunes in on an ancestral echo that re-members a home lost— a possible reference to the displacement of indiginous and wild natives by the expansion of mining activities in the state. The second part strikes a more divinatory chord with its opening shot of hands fluttering around a flame that's gradually eclipsed by a growing circle (or a crystal ball?) containing a dappled forest. The latter part is anchored by the action of caressing a burnt leaf gathered from the local forest in Upper Shillong. As the leaf is caressed to ashes, the voiceover conjures its deep past. Suddenly the leaf transpires to be a powerful agent, a portentous synecdoche for a forest whose fossilised ancestors are currently being exhumed to terrible effects.
