Florian Borstlap

installation - performance - interactive - experimental - sculpture

I am a multi-disciplined artist and former merchant sailor. My portfolio ranges from boundary-pushing theater concepts such as 'The Performance Bar' and 'Pop-up Studio' to fine art projects like 'Dutch Snack Art' and 'The Entity of ZOON'.
I embrace an absurdist approach to deconstruct and analyze social structures, striving to co-create performances and interactions that are awkward yet fulfilling. My work method involves experimentation and improvisation, pushing the boundaries of human behavior and its aesthetics, all while keeping in mind the power of irony. Through my art I aim to stimulate utopian thinking* but above already inspire others, expressing my love of life and encouraging community involvement and diversity.
Between 2004 and 2019 I combined my nautical career with my artistic endeavors. Sailing as a first mate on merchant ships traveling around the world and learning from different cultures, gave me insight and joy as well as unwaving work ethics, technical skills and independence. I am now proudly a full time artist.

  • The Performance Bar was a successful unconventional performance art initiative and community that shone like a bar. Every weekend you could visit the bar and be amazed at how artists and audiences transform the bar into a stage. Popular for its diversity of visitors and cultural experiences, praised for blurring the boundaries between café and theater, bar and stage, artist and audience.
