Ghislain Amar

I make installations with photographs and films. I sometimes write too. I have built an extensive archive of images of the places I have lived in and of the people I have spent time with. This practice of photographic and cinematic recording is the basis for the production of new works which draw from my personal experiences of social environments and various situations I put myself into. My book 'Community Albums (2016-2018) is a nine-part photographic album, composed of 700 images of the people surrounding me in Rotterdam at the time. The result portrays an example of the social dynamics, looks, and ways of being of the members of a small group over time. In 2021, I developed a new film and slideshow installation with non professional actors, experimenting with scripted and improvised performance in a reality-TV like setting. Currently, I'm working on developing a more collaborative practice. I run peach, a small art space in Rotterdam.
