Gordon H. Williams

artistic research - film - performance - collaboration - installation

Through music creation as an artistic practice, I study human conditions with a focus on affect, perception and relationship. Community, commoning and decentralization are particularly important areas of research and guideposts for my practice. I work in collaborative projects consisting of texts, scores, performances, videos and installations that attempt to realize ways of being together based in intimacy, hope and generosity. Meaningful participation is an integral part of the processes that I engage in, and often takes the form in the development of methods for decentralized music creation. Education and organizing work with groups such as Family Dinner, Fire is Scary, and Hache Collective also plays a significant role in my socially-engaged practice. With this work I critique art and music scenes and propose alternatives to create more accessible, inclusive and vital communities.
