Hanneke Breuker

painting - conceptual

I paint about what fascinates me, often these are political and social issues, but I don't want to paint them as such and explicitly recognizable. I am fascinated by the painting's ability to show threat, strength and power, but also nostalgia, beauty and vulnerability in one image. I have stayed abroad as an artist-in-residence several times and have traveled extensively. I paint landscapes, flora and fauna that I often associate with political / social issues. But I also find machines such as mills and helicopters with the underlying social stories fascinating to paint and draw. I find information via the internet and news. I often interview those involved to better understand others.
In my (international) projects I like to work with others and within different disciplines: photography, video, internet, texts and poems.
