Ingrid van der Hoeven

sculpting - drawing

As an artist I communicate with the postures and gestures of my sculptures and drawings. In the tranquility of the studio I work from my family background of migration and with a focus on the position of women. In my work I investigate where my feeling of being displaced comes from, what can I mean for others in a broad sense and universal search for connection. The female perspective: connecting and independent and the aspect of being allowed to be there as a colored woman and artist.

Outside the studio I want to share my knowledge and experiences directly. I am a member of the Culture Rotterdam advisory committee and a committee member of the V-fonds Utrecht. I also give guided tours, visual arts lessons to refugee children and museum lessons. Evoking empathy and making connections can lead to greater mutual understanding and appreciation for each other's cultural values. By promoting the importance of culture and with knowledge of history, I want to participate in society as an artist.
