Ivo Oranje

abstract - painting

I am a 48 year old Dutchman, born in Sâo Paulo, Brazil.
From the age of 12 to 17 I studied Dance at the Conservatory in The Hague.
Until recently, I worked as a matre in the hospitality industry in Rotterdam, the city where I live.
I am a self-taught painter and I am inspired by bright and colorful combinations.
My work is modern, abstract and often colorful on both large and small canvases.
The themes often relate to Brazil and its beautiful cities or to the city of Rotterdam.
Mark Rothko is a great source of inspiration. I like the way he thinks and paints.
His favorite comment for me is:
"I hope to paint something that will ruin the appetite of any motherfucker who ever eats in that room"
Something I can identify with as a former waiter.

Most of my paintings are made with acrylic on canvas
in combination with markers, pencils, ink or oil pastel.
