In his work, Rotteveel investigates the painterly and sculptural qualities of foil and tape. He bases this, among other things, on the hard-edge and color field painters of the last century. Rotteveel searches for the unsteady boundaries between materials, dimensions (flat and volume) and high art and low art.
Rotteveel works on dibond panels, but also makes large murals. Ultimately, all of his murals are temporary in nature. After an exhibition, Rotteveel removes them from the wall and they are gone. A statement to show that art does not by definition have to have eternal value, but that you experience the real value in the moment itself.
