Judy van Luyk

public space - conceptual - social

My work is a mixture of installation, video, photo, performance and guerrilla actions. I like to make work for a specific location. Each new work is an investigation into the place itself and its surroundings. These investigations influence and shape my ideas about public space and how politics influence urban development. Themes such as housing construction and housing policy are discussed. My projects are a reflection of the current politics and mentality of the resident, as is clearly visible in the project I love Beirut. In some projects I use a drill to systematically demolish things. In other projects I show pictures of broken windows. I think it is necessary to also allow the imperfections in our lives, because it is precisely these details that make life exciting and a city lively.

They love their city, but hate it t

This building right in the center of Dresden has stood empty for 30 years and is now finally being renovated. During the renovation, two photo banners cover the facades of the building on Sidonienstrasse in Dresden.
