ik lijk michelangelo wel, memory is a creative writer - is a fictional reconstruction of one of the last days of a visit to Curacao. through multiple perspectives warm memories unfold of time spent with chris, a family friend. a short film challenging the notion that memories are static and unchanging, instead depicting them as malleable, subject to the creative imagination of the person recalling them.
op een klein eiland, in een groot eiland / on a small island, in a big island (filmstill) - "Ik zoek een zee die ik in lagen kan bedenken. Ik zoek een zee die mij heel laat. Ik zoek een zee die ik in een kopje kan schenken."
op een klein eiland, in een groot eiland / on a small island, in a big island - is a short film that takes a poetic look into a family history of coming and going. the film centres around a comprehensive archive of film and slides that van bochove's grandfather amassed throughout his life. these captured moments showcase a life lived in constant movement: from suriname to the netherlands and finally to curacao. through glimpses and intimate details, feelings regarding the inheritance of movement and longing become tangible. a short film exploring themes of displacement and migration, the sense of not fully belonging in one place or another, and the lack of proximity.
