Maoyi

artistic research - audiovisual - sound - performance - digital technology

I am an activist and visual, sound artist, my practice engage with the medium of sound, video, installation and performance, focus on topics related to critical spatial practices and somatechnologies. My research spans feminist somatic practice, sonic dataveillance and draws attention to the relationship between technological control and the body. My work often engage with sonic essay and audiovisual performance, considering how motion can be interpreted through sounds to create rich narratives, and to deliver political urgencies with affective speculation. Working between silence, speech, and music, I stage and pose questions around transparency and opacity, becoming invisible and speaking up, camouflage and assemblage.
