Marieke de Zwart

artistic research - film - photography - gender - media

Marieke de Zwart (b. 1994) is a media artist with a background in film, photography and painting. She recently graduated from her masters in Lens-Based Media Design at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam.

Her work has a critical approach towards asymmetrical power structures in (mainstream) media. She focuses on gender roles and explores the relationship between model, director and camera. Her visual approach finds itself in psychological and aesthetic areas generally described as: the uncanny.

Besides her practice she works as a freelance videographer and animator.
