Marijn de Jong (Rotterdam 1975) was born into an artist family and started taking photographs at the age of 14. In 2000 he graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Since then he has worked as a visual artist with photography as his main medium. He photographs his personal environment with a special appreciation for 'ordinary' everyday life. Making portraits is the most important part of his professional practice; he photographs anonymous passers-by on the street, his acquaintances, friends and lovers. He also photographs streets, buildings, (urban) landscapes, skies and utensils, which can give context to the portraits.
In the presentation he often makes combinations of different topics, so that
the images can enter into dialogue with each other. In reality there is also a constant alternation of different people, animals and things that exist simultaneously. A wall with photos by Marijn de Jong provides space to wander around and make associative connections.
