Marina Meijer (1987) studied Political Science and Language & Culture Studies at the University of Amsterdam and Utrecht, before starting at the Netherlands Film Academy. In 2016, she graduated as a director of Cargo (2016, 25'), which had its international premiere at Hot Docs, Toronto. Her first film after graduation was O Amor É Único (2018, 50'), a film she produced, filmed and edited herself, and which was selected for IDFA's Competition for Dutch Documentary. For her latest film Carrousel (2019, 67') she won the Karen de Bok Talent Prize in 2017 for the best film plan during the IDFAcademy & NPO fund workshop. The film premiered at IDFA in the international competition and at Cinéma Du Réel in Paris and won a Golden Calf for Best Short Documentary. At the end of 2019 she received the Documentary Stipendium from the Prince Bernhard Cultuurfonds 'because of her talent to make thematically rich films that are characterized by sharp and moving observations and idiosyncratic editing choices, in image and sound.'
