Marja Zomer

painting - autobiographical - diversity - figurative

Landscape, portrait, naked and eternal trees, I paint and draw the things around me that move me.
The themes and subjects present themselves moving across water and time. Light, reflections, friends, and closer still, skin, life here, on board. Rotterdam is my home port. Sometimes I also take pictures of what I fish or draw 10-minute portraits.
I register.

Exhibition / presentation

  • 24-11-2016 t/m 08-04-2022
  • In collaboration with: Observatorium-Rotterdam
  • Location: HAL Hilton, Rotterdam
  • Warten auf den Fluß was a temporary masterpiece of Observatorium. A 22 meter long zigzag bridge waiting for the river for 12 years. One winter she waited with boarded up windows. I painted 6 trompe l'oeils for this. In HAL I presented them with the now faded masterpiece drawn in charcoal lines. Looking inside a vanished observatory.

Marja Zomer looks at Jan B.

Project

  • 21-03-2019 t/m 08-08-2019
  • In collaboration with: Jan Broekstra
  • Location: Omstand, Arnhem
  • 15 self-portraits look at 24 portraits of Jan Broekstra. Jan had only a short time left to live. I asked him if I could paint his portrait. That was allowed and I did, time after time. The self-portraits were partly already there and were created in between. In Omstand I presented them opposite each other.

The big surprise of the Bird of Paradise Garden

Project

  • 18-06-2021 t/m 12-08-2021
  • In collaboration with: Cor van Rooijen
  • Location: Bird of Paradise Garden, Groningen
  • By chance we moored at a quay at the Bird of Paradise Garden. It turned out to be a wonderful summer full of warmth, acrobatics and an inspiring company. I wrote a story and made drawings. At the same time it became a memorial for Arnoud Brinkman (1966-2013).

IJssel bend and mother's lap

Exhibition / presentation

  • 18-09-2019 t/m 19-09-2019
  • In collaboration with: Day of the IJSSEL in connection with the IJssel Bienale
  • Location: Port, Doesburg
  • IJsselbocht en Moederschoot was a one weekend presentation here on board, consisting of two parts, IJssel landscapes hung in the hold and in the intimacy of the forecastle I showed the nudes of me and my partly dead mother. There was only room for 1 visitor. Between boudoir and mortuary. Gerco de Ruyter took a 380-degree photo so that you can still enter the installation with the right software or VR glasses to look around and zoom in.
