Marlies Lageweg studied history at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and documentary photography at the Royal academy of arts in The Hague.

As a researcher and visual artist she explores the way we identify and define ourselves in terms of the past. In her work she questions the influence of a cultural view and representation of history. She works together with scientists and experts on the subject.

Photography is the Starting Point of Her Visual Research, But Can Be Extended to What Subject And Research Requires. Text and Archival Objects and Materials Are a Substantial Part of the Work.
