Mia van der Burg

sculpting - drawing

My works are divided into periods. Periods of mostly several years in which I deal with a certain subject and where I use a suitable material. In the past it was shards from ancient times, later nature, which I put to my hand in photo works. The term polder is more recent: the emergence of and what impoldered land offers to people.
After a series of work on woolen wall objects, all untitled, created from shapes I encountered in my studio, I am now (2024) working on the Oud Goud series. Created following a work stay in Ireland. There I learned that peat extraction is no longer allowed. The peat was fuel (in my translation Old Gold) for the Irish since the Middle Ages.
