Peter Hengst

figurative - painting

I paint in layers on different supports, such as on linen wooden panel and on copper. I work figuratively, not hyper-realistic. Man is almost always present in my work. Sometimes prominent in the form of a portrait, but it can also be a multiple person, moving in the city or rural area or in some way incorporated into a world imagined by me. The use and knowledge of old-Dutch painting technique has proved to be a very important means for me to be able to express the light and shadow effect, the subtleties in the depth of the colors and the design as I wish. I only use homemade photo material from my immediate environment and this serves as an example for the final painting. Depending on the theme, I first combine or edit the photo material on the computer. But ultimately the painter's hand determines the final work of art. To me, painting means getting closer to my inner self.
