Petra Laaper

soft sculptures - installation - photography - body - performance

Petra Laaper's artistic practice combines the creation of textile sculptures and installations with a simplified version of performance art, captured in photography and stop-motion film.
With her sculptures she zooms in on a sensory experience. Her images sometimes manifest themselves as bodies in space; then again she tries out an object, it becomes an attribute for an action, recorded in photography. She shows simple shapes that are recognizable, but have no clear function and raise a question about their intention. Her work is an ongoing visual investigation into the body in space and what posture to adopt.

ZiN ZiN

Exhibition / presentation

  • 03-04-2022 t/m 12-06-2022
  • Location: Odapark, center for contemporary art, Venray
  • Petra Laaper and Mat van der Heijden are working together for the first time in ZiNZiN. They find themselves in a mutual appreciation for each other's work. The beauty and comfort that can be found in everyday life is expressed in this exhibition in a web of words and images. ZiNZiN is about removing all the frills, about simplicity and about wanting to learn things anew. An exhibition with tranquil poetry, patterns and puns. And also full of ZIN.

  • In May 2019 I was a guest at AiR Pécsbagota. Since 2007, the residency, an initiative of visual artist Elizabeth de Vaal, has given visual artists the opportunity to work in the small Hungarian village for a month. I went there to recharge and find inspiration for new work for my solo at Contour Gallery in the fall of 2019.
