Robin Kolleman

installation - body - human

Robin Kolleman is a nomad, who needs little enough to make deeply penetrating work. If you visit her studio page on kunstambassade.nl, you will see a four-part photo, with Robin characteristically seen from the back, each time in a different studio. Each new space marks a new phase in her work: with a handful of most necessary tools she temporarily moves into an empty studio and makes a series of works based on one material.
In recent years, the – in this case involuntary – nomad has also determined the subject of her work: the flow of refugees breaking down on the borders of Europe. In the most delicate material – thin paper – she burns with the most risky technique – fire – large drawings that are symbolic of their fate. Based on this, she makes small multiples, of which 10% of the proceeds from the sale go to the Refugee Foundation. (text by C. van de Baan)

Fire, fire!

  • Since the lockdown I have been working on a series of burned drawings in thin Chinese and Japanese paper regarding the refugee problem of Fortress Europe. I mainly focus on the listofdeath, but I also work on themes such as freedom, discrimination, slavery that are closely related to this.
