Rosa Boomsma

figurative - painting - drawing

My work is about duality and the energy or tension that arises between two extremes. Duality as a principle means that we are confronted with polarities in everything in the visible world of forms: a beginning and an end, prosperity and adversity, ebb and flow. In my experience, these extremes are so palpable and at the same time so intertwined that there is a constant undercurrent of tension in me and in my work.
Somewhere in the in-between space, which exists between two ends of the same spectrum, lies 'reality' for me. By shaping this reality I try to show the gray, the nuance, the deeper layer.

People and figures play an important role in my work. Although realistic, the figures are somewhat abstracted and stylized. The compositions are sober and timeless representations of reality where the figures refer to the human psyche, our inner world.
