The common thread in my work is man and his behaviour. We as humans can do an unimaginable amount, but as a species we also cause endless suffering and damage. With our fellow species, the other human being, but also with animals and nature. What drives us to this and what are the consequences?
Since 2020 I mainly make (digital) portraits, mostly of young refugees and status holders. They are new to the Netherlands and have been through a lot. Not infrequently they are without parents and family. Every day I see how much perseverance these young people have. Their positivity and resilience is inspiring and I want to show that. By portraying these young people, I literally give them a face and a place in our polarized society.
