film

As an artist and stop motion animator I use old fashioned film making techniques and pre cinematic apparatus's to make my works. My aim is to use simple and found materials and combine them with these techniques to create the 'persistence of vision' which magically transforms a series of static images into ones that seem to be moving of their own accord. It is easy to forget that there was a time before moving images and that when they were first produced moving images were a huge novelty. Seeing static images come to life for the first time must have filled people with wonder and intrigue. My mission as an artist is to create experimental humorous art that enables an audience to feel that same wonder and intrigue by showing them moving images in a way that they have not experienced before.

One in One Hundred (in production) - One in One Hundred is an animated short giving a voice to people with epilepsy. One in One Hundred is still in the early stages of production the video shown here is a proof of concept made during a recent Master in Animation at the AKV St Joost.
Musing on Epilepsy - Animated short in which the artist describes his experience of having an epileptic seizure.
Collageoscoping - Collageoscoping is an animated technique similar to rotoscoping where video stills are traced over using materials such as ripped cardboard, broken ceramics or feathers to create a rough reproduction of the original image. When these stills are edited together they create an animation that though rough, imitates the lifelike movements of the original video. These animals are collageoscoped from Eadweard Muybridges Animal Locomotion series.
Élan Vital - Élan Vital is a multi screen animated installation contemplating the difference between what we ‘see’ and what we ‘observe’ when watching animation. The film experiments with different techniques, including green screen, cellular and stop motion animation. Élan Vital has been exhibited multiple times as an installation and screened at various film festivals.
Make Animation - Make animation is a project commissioned by Pluk de Nacht film festival during which I held stop motion animation workshops during each day of the festival, the results of which were shown each evening before the main feature.
