digital technology - experimental - photography - installation - light - sculpture - drawing - science & technology

I am an Irish artist currently living and working between Dublin and Rotterdam. I have just completed my MFA at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam (2019/21). Since finishing my MFA, I have been reassembling what my art practice is and how I wish to approach it. This has resulted in my approach to making art to become research and experience lead. I work in many mediums that tend to come together in installations and relate to photography and its wider relations. I use installation as an approach to merge many types of material and media together in order to approach the complexity of ideas. My work is invested to understanding our relations to technologies all encompassing vision to be networked and connected. I center photography in my approach as Its where my knowledge is situated, but I rarely use photography as my output. I instead use the materials, or respond to the infrastructure or systems it is connected to.

  • Three Photography Plants was my 2021 MFA Piet Zwart Graduation show. It consisted of an installation of three sculptures titled: Tree, Shrub and Creeper. The steel and copper sculptures replicated organic plants and roots systems in pools of chemically reacting liquids. The buds or fruits that appeared were processed materials such as the silicon wafer (used for camera sensors). The installation backdrop was of Silicon Carbide on paper. A material integral in recording deep space images.

WithOther Matter

Exhibition / presentation

  • 15-07-2022 t/m 27-07-2022
  • Location: Roscommon Arts Center, Roscommon
  • For long periods in 2020 and 2021 social restrictions limited our interactions with people. Urged to stay at or close to home our engagements with the things and other matter that occupies these spaces intensified. This period has enabled a time to build new relationships with nature, plant species and other living things that surround us, allowing us closer observation and interaction with the often overlooked familiar things we live with and alongside.
