Theo Rooden

textile - abstract

Visual artist Theo Rooden (Sittard, 1969) makes fabrics. He likes to experiment with techniques and geometric abstract compositions. Based on a number of self-imposed rules, he searches for exciting rhythms and patterns. In addition, the possibilities and limitations of the loom and the quality and colors of the yarns he selects form an inspiring challenge. Rooden prefers to work in series to investigate the consequences of the elaborations of algorithms and variants thereof in detail. Rooden: 'The 'translation' of my design into a weaving pattern is like a game where the rules of the game. – imposed by myself – can collide with the possibilities and limitations of the loom. If the fabric requires it, I adjust the rules so that there is room for something unexpected that can lead to a more exciting or beautiful result. Intuitive choices in the field of color, color shades and composition play an important role in this.'
