The Rotterdam artist Vera Nederlof paints 'boxers' and 'live boxing impressions' during boxing matches. “In this work I can express myself, I am not hindered, but I can improvise. Before I started painting I did classical ballet for a long time and worked as a graphic designer. With both of them I yearned for the freedom and autonomy that I finally found in boxing. Boxing is like dancing, but improvised. Boxing is a perfect sport that does not tolerate half measures, it is either hit or miss, similar to the art. Dynamics, purity and expression. I work a lot with ink, you can't mess with it, it either goes right or wrong”.
