Welmoed Bosch

body - objects

I make clothes and things that look like clothes but aren't. The translation of the body into a garment is central here. My working method is grounded in a technical approach to tailoring, multidisciplinary theoretical research and a deep appreciation for the tactile qualities of clothing. By combining these different approaches, I analyze the basics of the techniques we use to dress our bodies.

Phantom bodies

Exhibition / presentation

  • 20-01-2024 t/m 17-02-2024
  • In collaboration with: New Charlois
  • Location: Nieuw Charlois, Rotterdam
  • Solo exhibition A piece of clothing in an exhibition, disconnected from its living counterpart, can have an alienating effect. Something we live with becomes an artefact that we are only allowed to look at. Yet even in the absence of a physical body, an abstract body lies hidden within the garment. This series of textile objects plays with the phantom of the body in exhibited garments.

  • Taking care of three sheep and pasture with a group of volunteers. Part of a project investigating the possibilities of local Dutch production of knitwear. For me personally an opportunity to gain a better understanding of what wool really is. I use a lot of wool in my tailoring. The processed wool that I buy is very far removed from its origin: the sheep. Here I learn about sheep, pasture, biodiversity, wool processing and the relationships between these things.
