Alida van Gool

Alida van Gool (1986) is a conceptual artist. In her work she explores the interaction between our imagination and shared reality, with an emphasis on the construction of meaning and value. Her art practice is based on experiment, association and intuition. Her work often shows traces of apparent 'sloppiness' (in the broader sense of being loose, emotional, messy) during the performance process, exploring and challenging our mental projections of perfection.

Her works are often layered, in motion or materialized in the midst of a certain movement. They are characterized by a certain playfulness, elements of (de)construction and frequent use of color.

    • The Land Behind The Mirror is a [lens-based] art collective formed by Alida van Gool, Katariina Kärki, Marleen Dalhuijsen, Rienk de Vries, Roald Wolters and San van Nieuwburg. Although all members have their own distinct vision, they feel connected by the way they question reality, turn it upside down and shed new light on its appearance. This exhibition is the first presentation of the collective.

    Sublime Minimal Form Language

    • Sublime design language is the starting point for a month-long search for the sublime minimal design language. What is minimal, what does that search entail and what does it yield? Not an exhibition, but rather a spectacle of activities around minimal formal language. Of course, work is also exhibited. Sometimes a day, weekend or longer. Work is made on location, installations are placed in the space. They are built by the maker, sometimes together with enthusiastic visitors.

    • The era of HVDF on the Westersingel will come to an end at the end of November. Renovations are going on, which means that unfortunately we have to leave the building. Our focus is on the future, the new path we are taking as HVDF. At the same time, we now reflect even more than before on this characteristic building in this fantastic location in the center of Rotterdam. We have been able to realize beautiful exhibitions and meetings here over the past three years, especially together with you.

During this edition, a selection of work by artists who do not have a studio and are on the studio waiting list at SKAR will be shown in the corridors and public spaces. Fifteen artists from (the network of) the House of Photography have also been invited to show their work.
