Fenmei Hu

autobiographical - Diaspora - figurative - human - painting

As a migrant child, I always look for a place where I feel 'at home'. What is my identity? Who am I and what do I show? I engage in conversation, teach outsiders to understand my world better, show the deeper layer of my culture and at the same time I learn more and more myself. Staying close to myself to move forward.

Chinese girl collection

Exhibition / presentation

  • 01-07-2023
  • In collaboration with: Verhalenhuis Belvedere
  • Location: Depot Boijmans, Rotterdam
  • Chinese Girl Collection is the Chinese collection of Verhalenhuis Belvedere that I help build and manage. It tells the story about the Chinese community in the Netherlands through objects, personal stories and photos. Here I build up a section of works made by Chinese Dutch artists, including a few pieces of my own work.

Task

  • 21-01-2023 t/m 22-04-2023
  • In collaboration with: Boijmans
  • Location: Zuid.Boijmans, Rotterdam
  • Commission to create an exhibition about Chinese porcelain in relation to the Boijmans collection. My own goal was to make something that was recognizable to everyone, Chinese or not. Staying close to people to help them better understand that every object can have a story and can be elevated to an 'art object'.
