Ground Works // The Balustrade [gr]exhibition The Ground Up And The Washed Down

Exhibition / presentation

  • 08-07-2023 t/m 27-08-2023
  • In collaboration with: A Tale of A Tub
  • Location: A Tale of A Tub, Rotterdam
  • I covered the balustrade with a layer of Rotterdam's subsoil. I used remains of drilling samples from the demolished Maasstad building and from a demolition site in the Glashaven. The use-touching of the balustrade leaves more and more traces and wears out slowly. The ground-covered balustrade can also be seen and touched during the exhibitions in September, October, November and until mid-December in A Tale of A Tub. You can consider this work in situ as a Conversation Piece.

Ground Works / the Mural

Project

  • 13-04-2023 t/m 14-04-2023
  • In collaboration with: Symposium Bodem Breed
  • Location: City Hall, Arnhem
  • During the Bodem Breed symposium, I will be making a large-scale mural in the Arnhem town hall with the subsurface of Rotterdam. On that day, 450 participants from the municipality, province, ministry and researchers will discuss complex issues and developments of the soil in the Netherlands. I participated in the symposium with a performative act and work in situ. The soil, residual soil from drilling samples, is autonomous and tangible on that day, Tuesday April 13, 2023.

AIR MAIL

Project

  • 01-10-2019 t/m 30-10-2020
  • In collaboration with: in collaboration with the participants of AIRMAIL
  • Location: The Netherlands, internationally and in the Bospolder Tussendijken district in Rotterdam, Rotterdam
  • The art project AIR MAIL started in the fall of 2019. Sending packaged air was the tangible object that was offered to participants. The object, consider it a precious and tangible gift, was sent to the participants by post. AIR MAIL is in line with current events, where communication and air are tricky subjects. The art project AIRPOST was made possible in part thanks to a work contribution PPR scheme from the CBK.

Shoe

Task

  • 11-07-2005
  • In collaboration with: in collaboration with the stickerer 'Zapata' and commissioned by Stichting Dichter bij debuurt
  • Location: Albrechtskade, Delfshaven, Rotterdam
  • A pile of rubble from demolished houses and studios in the area bears the tag 'Zapata'. The Zapata tag was sprayed on the demolition rubble and lasted for three days. An enamel sign with the photo of this temporary work hangs to this day on a facade of new-build homes in the area. I see the work 'Zapata' as a monument to the memory of a restructuring neighborhood and as a form of street poetry that depicts the ideas of a subculture.

The Veldweg, a sound sculpture in the open field

Task

  • 03-01-2013 t/m 15-06-2014
  • In collaboration with: carried out on behalf of the DelftsPeil Foundation
  • Location: Veld 23, Harnaschpolder, Delft
  • 'De Veldweg' is a temporary sound sculpture, executed on a building plot where construction has been postponed. 56 wind noise tubes have been placed on a platform. On either side of the platform a raised wooden path of 70 meters long leads into the field. The sound can be heard from near and far, depending on the wind direction and wind strength. Residents and visitors use this work in their own way. In this way, the building plot is transformed into an experimental meeting place.

  • Location: Wallgallery, Red Apple, Rotterdam

Moving, a series of actions and interventions in a Park.

Other

  • 15-06-2021 t/m 10-11-2021
  • In collaboration with: in collaboration with three artists and with support from the Makersloket, Droom en Daad.
  • Location: Park 1943, Rotterdam
  • Thrown away food, especially bread, is something I run into in my natural landscaping work at Park 1943; it raises irritation and many questions for me. Something of value becomes worthless waste. As an artist I can develop visual actions with the wasted bread and perform them in the park; this in collaboration with invited artists and the park public. A new perception may arise here among the residents who use the park on a daily basis.

Zaanse Kleden, sceening, 'At the same place by coincidence', On Arte, Locarno.

Exhibition / presentation

  • 10-12-2016 t/m 21-01-2017
  • In collaboration with: Group exhibition At the same place by Coincidence
  • Location: On Arte, Locarno
  • The meaning of the video Zaanse Kleden is also current in 2022 . It provokes comments such as: 'Do only Turkish residents live in this flat?' or: 'With us in the big cities you can't knock your rug from the balcony, that is prohibited by regulation and causes nuisance and why is it here?' A visitor to the On Arte exhibition told me that making such a video in Switzerland would now be impossible and too controversial.

The Gray House, a gray zone as an intermediate zone in area development

Project

  • 22-05-2010 t/m 30-06-2010
  • In collaboration with: Municipality of Enschede Culture Department
  • Location: Velve Lindenhof, Enschede
  • A gray Airey house functions as a temporary monument and a new meeting place is created here for the social community of the reconstruction neighborhood Velve-Lindenhof. Inside, the house changes into a monochrome gray visual space. Together with the neighborhood and invited artists, Pars experiments with new forms of use and function. The Gray House was developed and executed on behalf of the Municipality of Enschede.
