  • 12-Hour Jamming Symposium was a platform for discursive interrogations and speculations on the phenomena of collaboration and the ideas, artworks and writings constituting Studio Jamming: Artists' Collaborations in Scotland at Cooper Gallery. The Jamming Symposium constructed a collaborative public 'site' to present the propositions, positions, exchanges and Declarations illuminating an expanded notion of collaboration.

Standpoint Futures

  • Standpoint Futures is a development residency program for UK artists based outside Greater London, providing opportunities for discussion and interaction with the London art world. Rayner hosted multiple studio visits with artists Beatrice Gibson, Andrea Francke, Lindsay Seers, Nick Crowe, Tom James and curators Amy Budd and Alfredo Cramerotti. The residency culminated in the production and presentation of a short risograph publication and public discussion together with Andrea Francke

Access As Idiot Distraction

  • Produced from a body of research into the Principality of Sealand, a Sovereign micronation with a complex history of war and data storage, located in international waters between England and the Netherlands. Employing digital model-making techniques commonly used in architectural processes and gaming industries, fragments of unsuccessful attempts to gain physical access to the site, the works present an abstracted prototype for an isolated and appropriated ruin.

  • An evening of talks, performances and music from the Bloc Projects gallery, as part of commissioned live broadcast from Radio Anti, exploring how places are understood through mapping, how mapping might be a kind of place making. The broadcast explores the transition of ideas into concrete phenomena by looking at the relationship between map and territory, object and representation, and rawing on concepts such as indexical geography and 1: 1 scale mapping in the writings of Jorges Luis Borges,

  • Using the social and literary devices of gossip, anecdotes and jokes, play with tempo, pace, volume, and tone to test the limits of expectation of speech, the residency focused on the economy of exchanging speech acts, provides opportunities to both lead and be guided through shared knowledge and its expression. Using each other as sounding-boards, we experimented with language games, writing exercises and different modes of scripted and improvised delivery to produce new work.

  • For the duration of the residency the studio was used as a working space to conduct interviews and conversations through unpacking the ridiculousness of particular phrasing and words and their etymologies within the English language. Using the texts of WS Graham, notably 'Approaches to how they behave', whose writing often focuses on the way in which language operates when it is set free from the writer and then regurgitated by the reader, as a starting point for discussion.

  • Tests on Previsualization. Tests on Dredging. Tests on Floaters. at Leicester's Two Queens gallery presented a series of intimate and delicate works focused on the human mind and body's internal operations. As an ongoing research project, Rayner examined acts of previsualization (creating a visual plan in order to arrange a structure for the future), dredging (bringing something deeply deposited towards a surface), and floaters (things that appear unexpectedly).
