Cristal De La Cruz

sculptuur - experimenteel - natuur - printen (3d) - wetenschap & techniek

The deep sea is a realm of curiosity.

Cristal De La Cruz artwork is completely drawn to the power of the ocean, the mystery of its existence, and the feeling of intangibility, within which there is a relationship between the organisms and their ecosystem. She focus on the infinitely small, which appears delicate in a complex existence.

Exploring the “morphology” of living and dead organisms and studying the interweaving structures within the ecosystems in which they live. She seek to understand their workings, certain repetitions, interconnections, form, structure, and color, in order to create a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. She aspire to translate the serene feeling and sense of hopelessness in the face of the infinite and unknown depths of the ocean into sculptures.

Her work spans across various disciplines and layers. Through sculptures, kinetic art, and modern mechanics, she create forms and movements that resemble the natural world.

Synapsisme - In the nervous system, information is exchanged between neurons at sites of contact known as synapses. The work Synapsisme of Crystal de la Cruz and Stan Wannet is a physical manifestation of their collaboration. A semi-organic , semi-mechanical being that grew of a shared fascination with complex biological structures and the question how the systems we make ourselves relate to it.

Lions Mane - Lions Mane without skin - inspired by Cyanea Capillata.
Lions Mane - As I delved deeper into the mysteries of nature and technology, I discovered a fascinating fact about the movement of the Cyanea Capillata, a jellyfish known for its ethereal grace and delicate beauty. With every pulsing movement, it navigates the ocean’s currents with a fluidity and ease that belies its powerful presence. Inspired by the jellyfish’s graceful movements and the powerful emotions that both nature and technology evoke, I set out to create a work of art that would merge the two into one seamless whole.
