artistiek onderzoek - audiovisueel - geluid - lichaam - taal - video

Through video, text and sculpture my practice examines organizational systems that have their roots in modernity and have been imposed far beyond 'the West', to consider their role in forming dominant narratives. My practice traces frictions between systems that aim to cohere speech (such as grammatical orders, law, History, phonology and algorithmic models) and narratives that evade them. Methodologically, my practice is informed by the long-standing research projects I am part of, such as System of Systems, and my encounters with others in the process. 'System of Systems' is an ongoing research project using the format of exhibitions, publications and public programming to examine the use of technology and bureaucracy in European migration processing systems.

    • On June 7 from 8pm we give the floor to Danae Io and Ioanna Gerakidi who will be performing In The Current Of The Situation, a composition of oral stories and eroto-historiographies tracing the mnemonic representations of unrequited sentiments of eros, love, lust and desire . This email correspondence project is fragile, vulnerable, proximate, and intimate.

    • A curated program investigating the increasing reliance on technology within migration systems. From exploring technologies as methods of both making and discrediting evidence, to the role of tech in forming an unevenly distributed restriction on bodies, and to the border as a site of growing investment and profit, their research and practice contributes to exposing and thinking through the surge in technological strategies for exclusion in, and by, Europe.

    I Am Inside Who I Was

    • The title of the show is borrowed from Rachel Zucker's book-long poem Eating the Underworld which re-tells the myth of Persephone, the daughter of Demeter who ran away from her mother to marry Hades and was the only mythical figure that could move between the world of the living and the underworld. The artists read the role of the pomegranate fruit in the myth as a link between the world above and under, a refusal of dichotomies by being in between or both.

    • I presented my film as part of a screening program at ICA, London. Like palimpsest pages on which new writing has been superimposed on the traces of old, this program of short films looks at landscapes as sites where multiple histories have been inscribed and overwritten on the physical terrain. In their varying cinematic languages, the selected works explore landscapes not just as backdrops to narratives but as devices partaking in historical processes.
