Studio MAKY (Man-Yee Mok and Kwannie Tang, since 2011) turns colorful designs and concepts into real life installations and interactive activities, specialized for events and cultural projects.

Our art projects are characterized as being humoristic, illustrative and with colorful designs, made with a lot of dedication. Besides designing concepts, we love to build our installations with our hands. For the best results, we work with all kinds of materials like wood, cardboard, fabrics, metal and paint. The sewing machine and toolbox are our best friends!

Welcome to our fantastic world full of crazy, vivid, happy and monstrous adventures!

Badkonijn, since 2009 - The Badkonijn is build in 2009 for the 'Waterworld aan de Rotte' exhibition. After this, the floating art installation moved to Vlaardingen and is floating since 2012 in the Vroesenpark. The Badkonijn is a collaborative project with the residents of Rotterdam North and still changes every year from design.
Badkat en Guppy, Groninger Museum, 2021
Badkat en Guppy, Groninger Museum, 2021 - Our floating 'Badkat met Guppy' (Dutch for Bath Cat with little fish Guppy) art installation is part of the Kinderbiennale 'Summer Neighbourhood Project' and was a participation project with the areas Korrewegwijk and De Hoogte and organizations Het Pand, het Groenhuis and Mooie Wijken in Groningen. We invited the children in these areas to inspire us, think with us and help us with the 'new-to-build' art installation. Through several workshops and out of all the creative ideas of the children, the floating art installation Badkat and Guppy was born. We build the installation in Rotterdam, but the last part of painting the cat we did with the help of the children in Groningen.
Wallpainting, Katendrecht (2024)
Wallpainting, Katendrecht Rotterdam, 2024 - Woonstad asked us for a wallpainting in their newly designed courtyard on the Rechthuislaan, in Katendrecht Rotterdam. They asked if a colorful, not to distracting mural could be placed on one of the walls in the courtyard and that would fit in well with the plant and color theme. Together with the architect studio Nousnous and Woonstad we came to this 'simple' plant design.
Zeehond op Zuid, Rotterdam, since 2016 - This floating artwork 'Zeehond op Zuid (2016)' is based in the Varkenoordsepark, South of Rotterdam. Just like the Badkonijn, the Zeehond is also repainted every year with a new design. The residents of Hillesluis/ Feijenoord are also actively involved in the project every year by helping and painting of the new design on the Zeehond of Zuid.
Metroproject pilaren project, 2022, Spijkenisse
Metroproject pilaren project, 2022, Spijkenisse - Between the metro stations Spijkenisse Centrum and Heemraadlaan, 16 sets of grey metro pillars and 2 murals have been transformed into colourful graffiti illustrations with the rainbow theme LGBTQ+ and nature. We were 2 of the 10 artists who participated in the metro pillar street art project of Spijkenisse, municipality of Nissewaard and are honoured to transform 2 pillar sets into a red and violet one. Our red set of metro pillars stands for the colourful diversity of people in the shades of red and turquoise with fantasy elements of nature. This project created an unique art promenade of 200 meter to walk along the various street art works in the colours of a rainbow. We have been asked to continue this project in the spring of 2025, on a number of metro columns between the metro stations Heemraadlaan and the Akkers
Cross Comix, 2D Huiskamer, 2023
Cross Comix, 2D Huiskamer, 2023 - The Cross Comix Living Room is a mobile public installation that makes you feel at home anywhere. As a temporary studio, as a signing table, as an interview stage, or simply as a place for the public to rest for a while. In the 2D living room everyone imagines themselves in their own cartoon world. During the 7 days that the living room was located at the main hall of Rotterdam Central Station, various artists came by every day to do a live painting. Also signing sessions, book promo of 'Rotterdam Stripstad' and live drawings were organised.
WC Wonderland, Happy drips and stains, 2016, Rotterdam - The CIC x Arttenders Art at Work Project commisioned us to create a design for one of the barthroom units, adding style and playfullness to a space that is normally considered purely functionally.
Circus Gibra, Villa Zebra, 2017, Rotterdam - Our colorful art installation 'Circus Gibra' is inspired by the mesmerizing stripes of the museum mascot 'Gibra' (a fantasy cross between a giraffe and zebra), and the magical, playful round shapes of the circus. Children will discover the circus by first entering the official backstage, a colorful graphic room where kids can transform themselves in real circus artists. Here the kids can prepare their acts and try a circus suit before they enter the magical circus arena with their show.
Mega Bed, 2019, Amsterdam - The mega bed that we made for the Children's Book Week 2019, has traveled for 3 months along the various library branches of Amsterdam because of the 100th anniversary of the OBA (Amsterdam Public Library).
