Serana Angelista

Diaspora - artistiek onderzoek - experimenteel

Serana Angelista, who holds a BA in fine arts, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores cultural development amidst erasure recognized as a form of oppression. They utilize diverse materials such as found objects, texts, and oral history, creating speculative visuals that provide insights into the formation of the personal.

Angelista draws inspiration from their dual Curaçaoan and Dutch heritage and is guided by their personal memories and historical research. Their work challenges established narratives and has been showcased in group exhibitions, including Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Wereld Museum, Kunstrai, Stedelijk Museum, and Amsterdam Museum. They also held a solo exhibition titled "Uprooted I Float" as part of Motel Mozaïque.

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam acquired Angelista's complete series, "Absent Examples/Empty Abundance," as well as the Surinaamse School Publication. Their works have been featured in publications such as Glamcult, Vogue, Icon Magazine, Medium, and Damn Magazine.
