Fatima Barznge

schilderen - tekenen - collage

Fatima Barznge (Iraq, Kurdistan) lives and works in Rotterdam. Her practice consists of paintings, drawings, textile work and murals. Her work reflects on symbolic forms and stories from her own cultural background, memories from her childhood village of Aghjalar before the devastation, and her new way of life as a political refugee in the Netherlands. Her works are in series ranging from abstracted figurative to completely abstract, in which her recent series combine motifs from medieval Islamic art and calligraphy with Western abstract art. Her technique refers to her fascination with the patterns and structures of textiles, weaving, needlework and embroidery that connect world cultures.

Fatima's work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions including V/MSP gallery Brussels Belgium (2023, solo); Ursula Walter gallery Dresden Germany (solo, 2023); Buitenplaats Doornburgh NL (2023, group); Stedelijk Museum Schiedam NL (2022, 2020, group), Rozenstraat- a rose is a rose, Amsterdam NL (2021, group)...etc
