Luca Tichelman

video

Luca Tichelman (1995, NL) primarily focuses on video, alongside photography and small moving sculptures. She is deeply interested in the ingredients that create the story of a Self and the need to repeat that story in order to affirm one's existence. By creating staged settings in which characters play a collection of different roles, she explores the innate human longing for a sense of belonging and the key role of identity in fulfilling this need. In a sense, Luca is rediscovering a childhood pastime - playing different roles in her room. Now turning this experience into an exploration of the fundamental human need to play.

At the end of 2022, the anniversary edition of the annual group exhibition Currents will open. An annually changing team of young curators will compile the exhibition, which showcases work by recent graduates from academies in Belgium, Germany and the southern Netherlands. Marres started this Euregional talent project in 2013.
